Emiliano Sala: Body Recovered and Identified

The body successfully recovered from the wreckage of the plane in the English Channel has been confirmed as Cardiff striker Emiliano Sala.

Sala and pilot David Ibbotson were the only two people on board the Piper Malibu aircraft which was downed on a flight between Nantes and Cardiff on January 21.

The submerged remains of the plane were discovered on the seabed of the English Channel last Sunday by a private underwater search team.

And footage filmed by drones discovered a body still on board the wreck.

That body was subsequently pulled from the water on Thursday evening, and has now been confirmed by Dorset Police to be £15million Argentine Sala.

The body brought to Portland Port today has been formally identified by HM Coroner for Dorset as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala.

“The families of Mr Sala and pilot David Ibbotson have been updated. Our thoughts remain with them all.”
