Kevin Hart recovering from back surgery after car crash injuries

Actor Kevin Hart is recovering from back surgery following a car crash in Los Angeles early Sunday.

Doctors completed the operation on the 40-year-old comedian Sunday night after he suffered major back injuries in the accident, a source told TMZ. He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days while he recovers, the report said.

Hart had been a passenger in his electric blue 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, which he named Menace, when it swerved off Mulholland Highway in Malibu Hills, crashing through a wooden fence and falling into a gully around 1 a.m. Sunday. The roof of the car was crushed from the impact of the crash.

His friend Jared Black, 28, had been driving the car that Hart bought for himself as a birthday present in July. Hart and his wife’s personal trainer, Rebecca Broxterman, was also in the car.

Doctors said earlier that Hart’s injuries did not involve spinal cord problems — and they were hopeful he would make a full recovery, according to The Blast’s earlier report.

A seriously injured Black, who was pinned in the car after the crash, was flown to UCLA Medical Center, TMZ said.
